Frequently asked questions
About the Campaign
Who Is Redwood Counseling?
Redwood Counseling is a private, Joint Commission–accredited group mental health practice based in Southern California. It was founded in 2018 by Tobias Desjardins, LCSW, who grew up in a low-income family and has spent his career working with families on Medi-Cal/Medicaid. Tobias launched Redwood with one clear mission: to provide low-income families with best practice mental health services — compassionate, professional, and accessible.
What is The Best Way Through campaign?
It’s a mental health awareness campaign created by Redwood Counseling that combines art, videos, and community action to support crisis hotlines and spread hope.
Why is Redwood launching this campaign?
We believe mental health conversations should be creative and inspiring. This campaign is designed to support mental health awareness and encourage support for the nonprofits that provide life-saving mental health hotline services.
How long is the Best Way Through campaign?
October 10 to December 31, 2025.
What does “The Best Way Out is Always Through” mean?
It’s a reminder that even when life feels overwhelming, moving through rather than around — with support and connection — is the path to healing and wellness.
How does this campaign support mental health awareness and crisis hotlines?
We’re donating artwork to nonprofits for them to use for fundraising, raising visibility through videos and social media, and encouraging direct donations to crisis hotlines and other essential mental health non-profit organizations.
Are the crisis hotlines officially partnered with The Best Way Through campaign or Redwood Counseling?
The Best Way Through campaign highlights crisis hotlines as public resources. The Crisis Hotline phone numbers and web addresses are widely available and intended to be shared to connect people with help. But please know they aren’t official partners with us and our sharing doesn’t mean an endorsement—just that we want you to have the info if you ever need it. If a hotline prefers not to be featured, we will respect their request.
For Redwood Clients
Do I have to follow Redwood on social media?
No. We share general education, wellness resources, and community outreach on YouTube and other platforms, but there’s no expectation to follow, comment, or engage.
Can I message or tag my therapist on social media?
No. Redwood staff do not use personal or professional social media accounts to communicate with clients.
Are my comments on Redwood’s posts private?
No. All social media interactions are public. We strongly encourage you not to share personal health information or identify yourself as a Redwood client online.
Are the stories in Redwood’s videos about real clients?
No. Our videos and posts are for educational purposes only. Stories, examples, and scenarios do not reflect real Redwood clients, and any similarity is purely coincidental.
Does Redwood run giveaways online?
Yes. Sometimes we host giveaways or promotions on our channels. Participation is optional and never tied to counseling services. Please remember that entries are public, so avoid sharing health-related or identifying details.
What should parents and guardians know?
To protect your child’s confidentiality, we strongly encourage you not to post about their services or identify them as a Redwood client online. Our Wellness on Screen series sometimes explores adult themes — we recommend parents preview episodes before sharing with children.
Can I leave a review of Redwood Counseling online?
Yes, but please know Redwood is not soliciting reviews. If you opt to leave a review, to protect your privacy, Redwood staff will not reply, and we strongly encourage you not to identify yourself as a Redwood client or share personal information in your review
Does Redwood’s online content replace therapy?
No. Our videos and posts are for education and awareness only. They are not a substitute for therapy, diagnosis, or treatment.
What if I’m in a crisis?
If you are facing a mental health crisis call 911 or your local emergency number. You can also go to the nearest emergency room. You may also reach out to a crisis mental health hotline, such as 988.
Participation & Giveaways
What Giveaways are you offering?
We are offering 3 giveaways: Screen and Win, The Crisis Hotline Challenge, and The best Way Through Art Contest. The rules are posted on the registration form for each contest.
How can I enter the giveaways?

Can Redwood Counseling clients participate in the giveaways?
Current and former Redwood clients are not eligible to participate in the Art Contest because of potential confidentiality concerns. We strongly recommend that clients do not share any information that could identify them as a Redwood client or disclose any protected health information (PHI) when participating.
